There's Been a Lot of Wall Added.
There's Been a Lot of Wall Added Since You Left, Joe
For the special benefit of those in service, here's a Christmas day photo of the new stretch of wall at the Wisconsin State prison. (Nice "white" Christmas, you'll note.) The wall continues on the north and east to join the old walls.
That old corner where the warden's house stood doesn't look the same. A private contractor started work on this new stretch of wall in August, and completed it in December.
That building in back of the wall is the new prison hospital that Frank C. Klode, former welfare director, was going to have finished by Christmas. It isn't anywhere near done but the state has obtained priorities on some more materials and work will go ahead once more on it.
Under Klode, the razing of the old warden's house was started in June, 1941. Footings for the hospital were poured back in August and September, 1941. Work on the building has progressed by spurts, when at all. —Leader-News photo.
